La Peregrina

You must’ve heard of La Peregrina at least once in your life. The 202.24 grain pear-shaped pearl was bought by Philip II of Spain in 1582 and soon became one of the country’s most important crown jewels. It passed through the hands of eight kings of Spain and then fell into the hands of the elder brother of Napoleon Bonaparte. La Peregrina was sold at Christie’s in December 2011 for $11,842,500 as a part of the Cartier necklace and became the most expensive natural pearl jewel ever sold at an auction!

The Hancock Red

The Hancock Red is a small diamond (0.95ct) in a unique and exceptional shade – Fancy Purple-Red. This wonder of nature was part of the collection of a farmer called Mr Hancock, who purchased the diamond for only $13,500 in 1956! The Hancock Red was offered for sale in 1987 with an estimated price of $100,000-150,000. Eventually, it was sold for a remarkable $880,000 (or $926,000 per carat) and just broke all the records.
