Meet the three most expensive, luxurious and desired gemstones ever sold at auctions. And guess what? They are all diamonds!
1 Pink Star ($71.2 Million)
A stunning 59.6ct diamond – known as the “Pink Star” – was sold for $71.2 million at a Sotheby’s auction in Hong Kong. It is the largest Internally Flawless Fancy Vivid Pink diamond ever graded by the GIA – and the most expensive gemstone ever sold at an auction! Wow! By the way, it was bought by renowned jeweller Chow Tai Fook.
2 Oppenheimer Blue ($57.5 Million)
The 14,62ct Oppenheimer Blue is the largest Fancy Vivid Blue diamond ever to appear at auction. This beauty was sold for $57.5 million at Christie’s in Geneva. The diamond was named in honour of its previous owner, Sir Philip Oppenheimer, whose family controlled the De Beers Group.
3 Winston Pink Legacy ($50.66 Million)
The 18,96ct pink diamond called “the Leonardo Da Vinci of diamonds” was bought by the American jeweller Harry Winston, which promptly renamed the stone as the Winston Pink Legacy. The diamond cost $50.66 million and was once owned by the Oppenheimer family.
