Unlike some precious stones, garnets generally don’t require special care, though tsavorite and demantoid varieties are slightly more delicate and deserve additional protection. Mozambique garnets (primarily rhodolite) and tsavorite garnets command higher prices due to their exceptional qualities. Mozambique rhodolites are prized for their pure, raspberry-to-purple coloration with minimal brown undertones, setting them apart from common red garnets. Their remarkable clarity and larger available sizes further increase their worth. Tsavorite garnets, primarily from East Africa, are among the most valuable due to their vivid green color that rivals fine emeralds but with superior clarity and durability. Both varieties are increasingly rare in high-quality specimens, with tsavorites over 2 carats being particularly scarce in the marketplace, driving their cost significantly higher than standard garnet varieties.
