Henckel von Donnersmarck tiara

The most expensive tiara ever sold at auction cost $12.7 million and was created by the House of Chaumet, and gifted by a German aristocrat Guido Henckel von Donnersmarck to his second wife, Katharina. The tiara consists of 11 pear-shaped Columbian emeralds (500 carats in total!) and 11 large cushion cut diamonds, which are set among diamond laurels and ribbons.

Noor ul Ain Tiara

Farah Diba wore the Noor ul Ain tiara in 1958 one the day she married Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last Shah of Iran. Harry Winston made this piece using a rare 60 carat pink diamond as a centrepiece and 324 coloured diamonds on the sides.

Mike Todd Tiara

Mike Todd gave this vintage tiara to his wife, Elizabeth Taylor, in 1957. It was made of old mine-cut diamonds from the late 19th century. After Taylor’s death, the tiara was sold for $4.2 million.

Queen Mary’s fringe tiara was made of diamonds set in gold and silver by E. Wolff and Co. for Garrard in 1919. Mary gave the tiara to her daughter-in-law, Queen Elizabeth, who loaned the tiara to her daughter, the future Elizabeth II, to wear at her wedding in 1947.
